UN Reports Over 145,000 Displaced in Sweida Amid Clashes, Drone Attacks
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) reported that between July 20 and 22, hostilities involved mortar shelling and aerial reconnaissance missions, which have further harmed civilians and triggered mass displacement. While the majority of those displaced remain within Sweida province, a significant number have sought refuge in the neighboring governorates of Daraa and Rural Damascus.
Essential services across Sweida continue to be severely disrupted. The UN detailed widespread failures in electricity, water supply, fuel availability, and telecommunications infrastructure. Food insecurity is intensifying as markets face interruptions and bakeries remain closed.
Humanitarian agencies have initiated relief efforts to address the crisis, delivering healthcare, protection programs, food, potable water, and essential non-food supplies to affected populations. However, ongoing access limitations are hindering these critical interventions.
Aid shipments from the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) have successfully reached several areas in Sweida and Salkhad districts, distributing food, fuel, and medical provisions.
