SDF launches widespread attacks on Aleppo

(MENAFN) The YPG/SDF carried out 360 attacks on neighborhoods in Aleppo over the past week, a top Syrian official said Saturday. The assaults came shortly after the latest round of negotiations between the group and the Syrian government about a week ago, according to Information Minister Hamza al-Mustafa, who spoke at a press conference alongside Social Affairs and Labor Minister Hind Kabawat.

Al-Mustafa described the Syrian Army’s operations in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods as “professional and precise,” aimed at safeguarding civilians and maintaining their security. He emphasized that the Syrian government prefers “political and negotiated solutions” to resolve disputes but accused the SDF of failing to honor previous agreements. He added that Syria is focused on building a state based on citizenship and that the country’s sovereignty and independence “are not subject to negotiation.”

Minister Kabawat highlighted government efforts to meet the needs of displaced residents in Aleppo’s shelters, working in coordination with local authorities and civil society organizations.

She called on Syrians to remain united and reject hate speech and incitement, while affirming that the Kurdish community remains an integral part of the Syrian people.

Aleppo Governor Azzam al-Gharib reported that life has begun to gradually normalize in Ashrafieh and Bani Zaid neighborhoods, with expectations that Sheikh Maqsoud will follow starting Sunday. He explained that the SDF attacks prompted the Syrian Army to take measures to restore security, after which public service institutions returned to the affected neighborhoods. Efforts are also underway to prepare schools for reopening and to reactivate health centers in both Ashrafieh and Sheikh Maqsoud.
