Syria Aims to Close Displacement Camps by 2027—President

(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa announced on Monday that Syria intends to close all displacement camps by 2027, framing the move as part of the country’s broader recovery and reconstruction efforts, according to reports.

In remarks delivered via video link to the 79th session of the World Health Organization’s World Health Assembly, al-Sharaa said the international community must strengthen cooperation to place human health at the center of global priorities.

“I address you today from Damascus at a moment when the world faces challenges that require a shared international will that places human health at the forefront of priorities and lays the foundation for a safer and more just future,” he said.

He added that Syria’s participation in the assembly reflected what he described as the country’s ongoing recovery and its intention to play a more active role in shaping regional and global health security systems.

The president also linked Syria’s reconstruction process to environmental and health planning, arguing that rebuilding efforts are helping establish a more sustainable future that safeguards coming generations.

“As your assembly places the close link between climate change and health at the top of its priorities, Syria’s reconstruction process is laying the groundwork for a sustainable environmental and health reality that protects the security of our future generations,” he said.

Al-Sharaa further stated that ensuring stability for citizens was central to long-term sustainability, adding: “Because human stability is at the heart of sustainability, we have made a national commitment to close the chapter of the camps by 2027.”
